Windows cleaning instructions
Windows cleaning instructions
Just like any other element in the house, cleaning the windows requires a special attention in order to ensure their durability and maintain their functionality.
Cleaning and maintenance
Things you shouldn’t use:
- Sharp objects, such as knives, trowels, etc.
- Steel scourers or abrasive sponges.
- Aggressive bathroom cleaners and lacquer solutions that may cause permanent damage.
Things you should use:
- Warm water (with 2% of neutral soap).
- Soft sponge, microfibre cloth or absorbent paper.
- Hot water steam cleaner.
Inside spaces
Use a vacuum cleaner to remove the dust and foreign particles accumulated during the window’s installation. This is usually required in the area of the gaskets and the chamber between the sash and frame. It might also be useful to use some kind of brush.
Lubricate the areas of friction such as hinges, handles, locks, latches and the remaining mechanisms.
For the corner drive, this isn’t necessary as they are permanently lubricated.
It is recommended to repeat this biannually once the system has been lubricated for the first time.
Profiles and glass
Soak a sponge in warm water with mild soap, wipe the frame (internal and external faces) and the glass. Then, with a microfibre cloth, remove the remaining water and soap. Finally, use a dry microfibre cloth (or absorbent paper) to complete the cleaning and drying. Cleaning with warm (not hot) water with mild soap can be replaced with steam cleaning.
It is recommended to repeat the operation monthly with every window.
Final observations
In areas close to motorways, the coast or industrial zones, maintenance and cleaning routines should be carried out more frequently.
Before starting other construction works close to a window, it is necessary to protect it from any potential dirt and dust. Make use of protective plastic and tape in order to protect the windows.
