Opening possibilities: HINGED

Opening possibilities: HINGED

One of the first decisions we have to make regarding our windows is the opening type that best suits our project’s needs. Every now and then we might be unclear about what the differences are between ones and the others.

Depending on the opening, we can classify the windows into two main groups: hinged and sliding, also subdivided into various categories.

Hinged openings are those that turn on hinges placed in one or both sides of the sash.

Side-hung

The sashes turn around a vertical axis by hinges and invade an area that must be kept clear in order to perform the opening.

Tilt

They open by slightly bending from top to bottom and towards the inside. The sashes turn around a horizontal axis by hinges; however, unlike side-hung windows, a complete opening is not possible, restricting the possibility of leaning out of the window.

Tilt&turn

It combines the two previous systems. Its opening is based on two rotation axis: one vertical and one horizontal. Depending on the position of the handle we will have one opening or the other. If the handle is at 90º we will have a side-hung opening through hinges. With the handle at 180º, the opening will be tilt and the friction stays will hold the sash on the ventilation position. When the opening positions are swapped, we will have a tilt-before-turn.

Bi-fold

The hardware system allows the sashes to fold and slide along rails like an accordion allowing a full opening of the bay. Our bi-fold system accepts configurations of up to 14 mobile sashes, and so it enables us to perform large enclosures.

Pivoting

Possible with either a vertical or horizontal axis. These swivels allow for a full 180º opening, facilitating the window cleaning and providing an optimal ventilation.

Top-hung

The top-hung opening pivots towards the outside from hinges located horizontally on the upper part of the sash. However, unlike the side-hung opening, in these windows the rotation axis is moved downward when opening them. This is because, on the side of each sash, there are a pair of friction stays, and therefore, when opened, the sash moves simultaneously outwards and downwards.

Tilt&Slide

They combine the functionality of sliding windows and the locking system of the tilt & turn windows. In this kind of window, the mobile sash opens with tilt first, the lower part then detaches from the frame allowing it to move parallel to the fixed sash. It allows us to cover large areas whilst having similar performance to a tilt & turn window regarding locking and water-tightness.
