Factors which influence thermal insulation in aluminium windows
Windows can help you significantly reduce energy consumption at home. If you choose a high thermal performance window, you will save on heating and air conditioning and improve the comfort of your home.
The lower the thermal transmittance of the window, the higher its insulation capacity.
The window separates the outside and the inside of a house. Therefore, we will find that the temperatures inside and outside of the house are different. The thermal transmittance value will indicate the amount of cold or heat that comes in through the window. The lower the value, the better the thermal insulation.
Factors to keep in mind (ALUMINIUM)
THERMAL BREAK | The external and internal faces of the window are connected by a rod of an insulating material, usually polyamide, made of elements with low thermal conductivity, such as fiberglass. This element acts as a barrier in the window, restricting the passing of the cold and heat through the frame and sash. The longer the polyamide, the better the thermal performance of the window. |
CENTRAL GASKET | These gaskets cover the existing space between the sash and the frame, further improving the thermal insulation of the window. |
INSULATING FOAMS | Besides the polyamide, there are other materials which can help improve the thermal performance of an aluminium window. For instance, the polyolefin foam, which can be placed both inside of the frame or the sash, as well as in the perimeter glazing gap. |
GLAZING CAPACITY | ↑ Glazing capacity = ↑ Thermal and acoustic insulation The glazing capacity is the space we have in the window sash to install the glass. The greater the glazing, the better the thermal and acoustic performance, since it will allow us to install thicker glass. Triple-glazing can be installed in windows with a glazing capacity of at least 36 mm, further improving the insulation. Besides, if the glass contains argon gas in the chambers, the barrier against cold and heat will be greater. The glazing capacity is a common insulating factor for both aluminium and PVC Windows. |
